Daisy and Diddums Double Up
We witnessed two outstanding and very exciting performances at the races this week initially by the Doug Roberts trained Daisy Duke at Doomben. Daisy stepped out on 7 September over 1200m and at her second start upon her move to Queensland had us all a little worried by jumping at the back of the field and travelling at the tail for almost 800m. It was however at the 400m mark that she cranked up the pace and by the 200 she had hit the gas and flew home for a two and a half length win from Magic I Am. What a performance! Daisy is pictured here with Melissa Copelin while on a spell at Torryburn.
Trainer Gerald Ryan's patience with first starter Diddums paid off with the 3yo Snitzel filly making her debut at Kembla Grange on 10 September for a win. We were all very keen to see her finally find the track after 5 trials at various Sydney tracks and she didn't disappoint. A perfectly timed run for hopefully what will be some further Spring racing action for the filly. Diddums's dam Raheights has a lovely Shooting To Win filly now at foot.
Congratulations must also go to the trainer Matt Laurie and the connections of Crafty Miss (Starcraft x Miss Gai Flyer) which won at Kilmore on Saturday. Miss Gai Flyer will also visit Shooting To Win this year upon the birth of her Lonhro foal.
Another Torryburn winning connection on Saturday was Heavenly Anna (Duporth x Caviar Emptor) which also won at Kemble Grange for trainer Kerry Parker. Caviar Emptor is on the farm and gave birth to a bay colt by Sidestep just two days ago.
