Traitor Impresses at Warwick Farm

Sydney, January 29 - Promising three year-old Traitor was sent north for a first up crack at the $100,000 Magic Millions maiden at the Gold Coast in early January and while that plan did not pay off, connections took solace from an easy victory at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.

The Hawkes Racing prepared Mossman gelding was sent forward by Tommy Berry to be up on the pace and accelerated strongly down the running to win the 1400 metre maiden by two and a half lengths at his third start.

“He’ll be a better horse ridden more quietly, but he jumped so well and put himself right there,” said Berry.

“He was a winner on the way to the gates, he felt that good!”

Bred and offered for sale by Torryburn Stud, Traitor was purchased by Hawkes Racing for $75,000 at Magic Millions and is the first foal of placed Flying Spur mare Informant.

Informant comes from the family of six-time Group I winner Slight Chance, Group I BRC Queensland Derby winner Brambles and Group I producing sire Dane Shadow.

Torryburn Stud sold the current yearling from Informant, a colt by Magic Albert, to Anthony Cummings for $40,000 at the recent Magic Millions Yearling Sale.

Informant has a filly foal by Duporth and was covered last spring by Bernardini (USA).
